Lost in Net
Larry and I had become good friends since we got into campus. Last term, he did not pay much attention to his study; as a result, he failed to pass 2 of his course. As new term begin, I thought he would work harder, but actually, things go the opposite way! He still surfs the net all day long as usual!
To tell you the truth, he is just one simple example. But why do they still do this knowing it has ill effect on their study?
We might be a little nonplussed to answer it offhand. A certain amount of meditation has bought me to this as the pithiest reply, which I myself can give.
First of all, this might be the ill result of our education system. In junior or senior high school, high grades in exam is the first important thing, most of school fail to develop students’ interest in study and the ability to study on their own. It seems as if study is only for exam! Therefore, lots of students get tired of this kind of study.
After their admissions to college, they felt a heavy burden off their minds, and they just wanted to relax. As they had a lot more free time and much more allowance then before, it’s understandable for us that why they turn to internet. Besides, teachers took it for granted that they had been 18, they can take good care of themselves. But obviously they did not take the responsibility they ought to. And furthermore, there are lots of internet café around the school; it’s too easy for them to turn to. In addition, we have to think about the college life is not as colorful as they thought!
As a result, they tended to lag behind. Once they really did so, it was very difficult for them to catch up with others. As time went by, they lost the interest of study. And in their views, to go to class was just a kind of waste of time! No body wants to be this, but there seems to be no other good option.
We can’t simply blame internet for their degeneration. Yes, internet has had its share of failure, but what else not? Everything has its two sides! What we could do is just let them realize the value of study, and our age is uniquely qualified!
