May: (1) A 5-member delegation of the Irish Local Authority Members Association (LAMA) headed by Senator James Walsh visited China from May 7-15. The main purpose of their visit is to make an on-the-spot investigation on China抯 political and economical situation as well as the local governmental system of China. During its stay in Beijing, CAFIU Advisor and Vice-Minister of the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (IDCCCPC) Zhang Zhijun met with the delegation. The visitors also toured Shanghai and Xiamen. (2) Mr. Kollberg, a Rotarian from Australia paid a visit to China for a survey study on some poverty-alleviation programs implemented with the cooperation of CAFIU from May 7-18. Besides Beijing, he also made a field tour to Bin County of Shaanxi Province, Xia County of Shanxi Province and Xinglong County of Hebei Province. (3) Mr. and Mrs. Carballo from Costa Rica visited China from May 11-18. Mr. Carballo is a member of the Costa Rican National Liberation Party and Director of the Latin-American Research Center for Democracy. He was former vice-minister in the presidential office, and former vice-minister in charge of culture, youth and sports. During their stay in Beijing, Vice-Chairperson of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National People抯 Congress (NPC) and Vice-President of CAFIU Li Shuzheng met with them. The couple also went to Tianjin and Shanghai for a visit. (4) At the invitation of the Spanish Organization for Solidarity with Peoples in Asia, Africa and Latin America, CAFIU Council Member Tan Ronggen and research fellow Kong Genhong attended the international symposium on 揅hallenges of Globalization?in Spain from May 15-24 (5) Mr. P. Moreau, Secretary-General of Secours Populaire Francais (SPF) and other 2 members visited China from May 18-28. SPF is an influential nation-wide helping organization in France, and this is the first visit of the Organization to China. CAFIU Executive Vice-President Li Chengren met with the delegation, and Council Member Du Kening chaired a working session with them. Besides Beijing, they also went to Xi抋n and Yan抋n for a survey study on anti-poverty programs . (6) Invited by District 3650, Rotary International, a 3 member CAFIU delegation headed by Council Member Jiang Zhongyu attended 揑nternational Youth Forum on Peace in Asia?held in Seoul, the Republic of Korea, from May 20-26. (7) An 8-member delegation headed by Dr. Violeta A.V. Lazaro, Dean of the Institute for Business Management of the Philippine LyceumUniversity, visited China from May 23-30. CAFIU Secretary-General Jiang Shuxian met with the delegation. The delegation also went to Hangzhou and Shenzhen for a visit. (8) Mr. Juan Correa, General Manager of Panama News, led a 6- member delegation of journalists for a visit to China from May 23-31. The members of the delegation came from the Panama press circle and some of them were a former Minister or a former MP. CAFIU Senior Advisor and Vice-Minister of the CPC International Department Cai Wu, and Vice-Chairperson of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the NPC Standing Committee and Vice-President of CAFIU Li Shuzheng met with them respectively in Beijing. The delegation also toured Qingdao and Shanghai. (9) Chairman of the Slovakia Direction Party Mr. Robert Fico visited China from May 30-June 2. The Party was founded in 1999. Mr. Fico is a MP as well as the founder of the Party. Vice-Chairman of the NPC Standing Committee and CAFIU Advisor Jiang Zhenghua, Advisor and Vice-Minister of the CPC International Department Cai Wu met with the delegation and held dinner parties in their honor at different occasions. CAFIU Secretary-General Jiang Shuxian chaired a working session with them. Mr. Fico called on the Foreign Affairs Committee of the NPC Standing Committee, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the State Office for Economic Restructuring in Beijing.
